• The “woman evangelist” known as the Rev. Mrs. Edwards is drawing crowds at a revival at Harviell’s Methodist church.

• It’s announced that 800 delegates are expected to attend the Baptist State Convention in Poplar Bluff on Oct. 16, the first convention of its kind in Southeast Missouri.

• The plot thickens in the story of lost outlaw loot in the Ozarks.

Harry Wilcox of Piedmont made headlines when he claimed to have found a cave used by the Jesse James gang after an Ozarks train robbery, complete with abandoned gold coins and currency. He refused to share the location, but spoke to supposed U.S. Treasury agents on Oct. 5. Today, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is seeking those agents, who were revealed to be frauds by the U.S. Treasury Department.

Wilcox has promised to “open the cave to public inspection” in the near future. It is reportedly near Gads Hill north of Piedmont.

• The Kiwanis Club’s Boys and Girls Committee is sponsoring a toy repair campaign for underprivileged children in Poplar Bluff. The club will collect broken toys at the beginning of the school day and give them to the Future Farmers of America organization to be repaired. The toys will be returned at Christmastime.

• Wealthy businessman Tom Baker of Bloomfield offers a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of burglars who stole his rare silver dollar collection.

• Fish gigging season opens on the Current River.
