• The Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission rejected routine funding reviews of Missouri Law Enforcement Assistance Council requests totaling nearly $700,000 last night (Dec. 11). The rejection of the reviews, which Commission officials predicted would be “ignored on the state level and funded anyway,” was in apparent protest to “strings” attached to regional funds prohibiting use of more than one-third of the local funding for personnel.
• Don E. Hamm was elected president of Commerce Bank at the annual stockholders meeting held this week. He has been serving as executive vice-president and CEO for the past year. Hamm, his wife Irene and their children, Brenda and Steve, live on Sylvan Drive. Other officers elected were Earl Baumgardner as chairman of the board, Robert M. Wolpers as first vice-president, J.A. Parker as second vice-president and Tom Spencer as secretary to the board.
• The Poplar Bluff Mules boys basketball team dropped a 76-62 decision at Lilbourn last night (Dec. 11), three days after losing to the Panthers on a neutral court at Sikeston. John Casey and Bruce Dameworth led Poplar Bluff with 16 points each, while Robert Dodd added 15 and Scott Harrell finished with 10.
