Butler County reported 11 new cases of coronavirus Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases to 364.
The total number of cases around the state Wednesday was 78,062.
Amanda Fitzwater, operations director for the Butler County Health Center, announced the numbers during the weekly COVID-19 briefing.
She said five Butler County residents were hospitalized as of the meeting, and the county has had five deaths.
The health center’s lab and rapid-machine tests are available every day of the week, Fitzwater said. People need to call for appointments.
Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Chief Compliance Officer Johnna Craft explained the hospital, which serves a multi-county region, has nine people hospitalized with COVID, with two on ventilators.
PBRMC still is in need of cloth masks, and the hospital has material to provide to anyone interested in helping make them. Those interested may call 573-776-9052.
Boys & Girls Club Director Chris Rushin said on the third day of school, his organization has an average of 350 students, with an additional 120 on a waiting list.
Rushin said he is “very, very pleased with what I have seen in the first few days” with the school’s protocol to deal with the virus.
The number of cases in adjoining counties are: 27, Carter County; 464, Dunklin County; 19, Reynolds County; 84, Ripley County; 277, Stoddard County; and 76, Wayne County.
The briefings are held at 2 p.m. each Wednesday at the Poplar Bluff Police Department and also may be attended by telephone.
