Rain this weekend was an answer to Butler County Firefighters’ prayers. Sprinkled in with fire alarms for fields and woods were vehicle accidents and house fires. The majority of the incidents occurred Thursday.
County firefighters responded Thursday to several scenes involving grass, tree and woods fires.
At 1:15 p.m., seven firefighters responded to a woods fire at Spargo Farm on Highway EE in Neelyville, where two acres burned. They spent an hour and a half at the scene, according to reports.
At 2:50 p.m., crews responded to a roadside fire at the intersection of U.S. Highway 60 and County Road 581. The half acre is owned by MoDOT.
At 2:57 p.m., another crew of 10 firefighters in four trucks were fighting a field and brush fire in the 6000 block of County Road 564.
The reports stated the firefighters spent two hours at the scene because the fire crossed multiple land owners and the crews had to go through so many gates before they were able to put the fire out.
At 3:40 p.m., five firefighters in two trucks spent 45 minutes putting out a tree fire at the property of Peggy Hankins on Ellen Road.
A brush and woods fire at 4:10 p.m. at 7884 Highway 51 burned approximately one acre. Seven firefighters in three trucks spent an hour at the scene.
Firefighters responded to a truck fire at 8:55 p.m. on County Road 569. According to reports, the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 owned by Hunter Williams was a loss.
Four firefighters and three fire trucks responded and used 400 gallons of water on the fire.
Friday, five firefighters responded to a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Highways AA and B where they rescued a victim and washed off the road way. The crew spent an hour and 15 minutes at the scene.
Sunday, five firefighters responded to a house fire at 4:50 a.m. at the intersection of Highway M and County Road 159. The vacant house was fully involved when they arrive. They used 1,000 gallons of water. The owner is unknown. The house was a total loss.
