Sheriff Carl Hefner reported to commissioners he met with Dale Rogers, President of Robert Stearns and Associates, Inc., of Sikeston, Mo., last week to work on a revised potential jail rendering.
During the Feb. 13 commission meeting, it was decided between Hefner and the three county commissioners to try and reduce the size of the proposed jail from 120 beds to 80 beds.
Commissioners also said they would like to see the estimated price tag come in between $7 and $8 million dollars and with the reduction, they are hopeful that can be achieved.
Hefner said he and Rogers cut some items from the original rendering as well and Rogers is working on a new design to present to the commission along with the new estimated price.
Candidate filing for county offices also opened on Tuesday, Feb. 27 for the Aug. 7 primary election. The offices of prosecuting attorney, recorded of deeds, county clerk, circuit clerk, presiding commissioner and associate circuit judge are all up for election.
Interested parties have until 5 p.m. March 27 to file for the offices at the Stoddard County Clerk's office.
