The Poplar City Council voted to sell a piece of property on South Shelby Road owned by the city Friday during a special closed session.

The council discussed an offer made for the sale of property owned by the city known as Lot G on South Shelby Road, and accepted in the amount of $225,000.

Motion was made by Councilman Robert Smith and seconded by Councilwoman Jerrica Fox to accept the offer.

A roll call vote was as follows: Yes: Lisa Parson (by phone), Fox, Barbara Horton, Smith, Chris Taylor, Mayor Pro-Tem Shane Cornman, and Mayor Steve Davis.

The city purchased a total of 58 acres of property for $1 million. About four acres were used for the police department and 20 acres are located in a floodway.

This property was broken up into five lots for sale, all with Shelby Road access: Lot B – 3 acres; Lot C – 4 acres; Lot E – 10.69 acres; Lot F – 5.71 acres; and Lot G – 2. 44 acres.
