Two area churches are looking for singers to join a community choir that will perform at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on the Three Rivers College campus as part of the college’s Patron of the Arts program.

“The community choir is all about beautiful music and bringing people who love to sing together,” said Cheri Dawe, choir director of Fellowship Church.

With the help of Pam Becker, First United Methodist’s minister of music, she is organizing “Choir Jam 2023.”

“The community choir is for anyone who loves to sing,” said Dawe, a retired high school and middle school choir director with 20 years of experience.

She wants individuals or groups interested in the community choir to attend an informational meeting and first practice at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist on 500 N. Main.

Organizational information and music for the performance will be given to the singers that night. Dawe will not reveal the details of the community choir’s musical program, but she is excited about its composition of traditional choir and praise and worship music.

“The music will be traditional and fun with newer music mixed in with old,” she said.

Rehearsals will be held for one hour every Tuesday between March 7 and April 11, until the performance on Monday, April 17.

The Patrons of the Arts show will feature individual performances by the praise bands and choirs of each church, followed by the community choir.

“The community choir will be performing three choral arrangements,” said Dawe. “A final piece will be sung by all three choirs combined.”

Anyone with questions about the community choir is urged to call or text Cheri Dawe at (573) 429-9779 or Pam Becker at (573) 718-7721.

Dawe and Becker are hoping for a lot of community participation in the choir.

“Community choirs are about music but they’re also good for building relationships and camaraderie,” said Dawe. “We hope to make the community choir an ongoing opportunity for everyone who loves to sing.”
