An investigation into the alleged harassment of students at a Butler County bus stop resulted in two women going to jail on unrelated offenses.

Butler County authorities were contacted at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday regarding two men “harassing and threatening children at a school bus stop on County Road 4702,” explained Butler County Chief Deputy Wes Popp. “The individuals then were reported as entering a residence located in the 200 block of County Road 4702.”

Popp said Butler County deputies went to the home to investigate the allegations.

Contact, he said, was made with the homeowner, identified as Kimberly Suzanne Hopper.

“While speaking with Hopper, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence,” Popp said.

Six adults were found inside the home, including the two men who were “warned to mind their own business,” said Popp, who indicated their alleged actions were “nothing arrestable.”

Popp said deputies secured the home, and a search warrant was applied for after Hopper refused to give the deputies consent to search her home.

The home, according to Popp, belonged to Hopper, “but she was allowing these people to stay there.”

During the execution of the search warrant, “illegal items were located and seized, such as methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an illegal rifle (that had been) cut up and made into a handgun,” Popp said.

Suspected methamphetamine was “found on Kim Hopper, as well as marijuana (was found) in her room,” said Popp, who indicated the illegal weapon and drug paraphernalia also were found in Hopper’s bedroom.

The quantities of suspected meth and marijuana, according to Popp, were “user” amounts.

Hopper, 35, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an illegal firearm.

Another woman, Amy Renee Campbell, 37, of Fredericktown, also was arrested on a no-bond warrant for parole violation.

In August 2016, according to Casenet, Campbell pleaded guilty in Bollinger County to two Class C felonies of possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility.

Campbell was sentenced to concurrent four-year terms in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

A Probation and Parole official reported Campbell was released on parole on Aug. 21, and her parole expires on May 23, 2020.

Both women were booked at the Butler County jail.
