Butler County Health Department reported two new positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday afternoon, bringing the county total to 37.

The county has seen eight new positive cases in the past week.

Butler County announced four additional COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total to 35.

The county saw six new cases in the past week.

As of Friday afternoon, Butler County Health Department reported no one was hospitalized, and 26 people who were recovered.

Among the new cases was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, which announced the church would be closed until June 5.

In a Facebook post from Pastor Daniel Robles, it was reported that a member of the parish community had tested positive and those attending the previous weekend’s masses may have been exposed.

“Following recommendation from our diocesan offices and Butler County Health Department, we are going to close the church for a deep cleaning and sanitation,” Robles said. “Masses will resume on Saturday, June 6, at the 4 p.m. mass.”

Confirmation classes are also cancelled, he said.

“Please keep our parish families in our prayers, especially those who are sick,” he said.

Messages left Friday for Robles were not returned as of press time.

The Butler County cases broken down by age are:

20-29: 3

30-39: 4

40-49: 2

50-59: 10

60-69: 10

70-79: 4

80 and over: 2

The state reported 12,795 cases of COVID-19 as of 2 p.m. Friday.

There has been a 24-hour increase of less than 1 percent, with that data reflecting a 72-hour delay, according to the dashboard maintained under Missouri’s Show Me Strong Recovery Plan.

Area counties report the following number of cases:

Carter: 5

Dunklin: 33

Ripley: 7

Stoddard: 78

Wayne: 0

The state has seen 738 deaths, including one in Carter County; two in Dunklin County; and five in Stoddard County.

The United States has reported 1,740,599 of the world’s 5,885,490 COVID-19 cases. It has seen 102,516 deaths from the virus.
