Do you remember Doniphan Dollars?
Maybe you are a little too young to recollect the redeemable dollars passed out at local events, returned for discount items at stores here in Ripley County. Well, thanks to artist, Terry Staton and the Current River Heritage Museum, They Are Back....that is, for Current River Heritage Days on Sept. 21-23.
The date includes 6 p.m., in the DNAP Community Center on Thursday evening, when the Historical Society presents educators Jo Shaper and Eugene Vale to speak on the upcoming two eclipses. The team will also present an eclipse exhibit to students and families on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Pioneer Homestead, during Heritage days.
The developers of this year’s events are looking for volunteers to help with exhibits and help with some contests where the dollars would be given as prizes.
The museum is also looking for sponsors to help with some items and to help cover the cost of the event, which keeps this tradition free to the public. If you know of a group or club that would like to take on the challenge, please have them contact Julie Braschler at the museum (573) 996-5298.
