Armed man barricaded inside Advance home

ADVANCE — Stoddard County authorities were on the scene Wednesday night at an Advance house, where an armed man was barricaded inside.

The incident reportedly began sometime between about 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Benton Street.

“We’ve got a guy barricaded inside a house,” said Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner. “He’s got a handgun in the house.”

Before barricading himself inside, the man allegedly struck another occupant of the house, who was able to get out, said Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clark Parrott.

A negotiator, Hefner said, has been working with him.

As those negotiations continued, multiple shots were fired inside the home and the Sikeston SWAT team was en route at about 9 p.m.
