BLOOMFIELD — Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner recently announced his department will be holding a junior deputy camp this summer.

The camp will consist of weekly meetings from 5 to 9 p.m. on Mondays during June.

Participants can look forward to an introduction into the duties involved in the many facets of law enforcement. They will learn everything from dispatching to processing a crime scene to the flow of the judicial process in court. Some of the planned activities include fingerprinting and accident scene investigation.

“We are excited to share our love for our career and county with those who are interested in pursuing their own career in law enforcement,” Hefner said in a news release.

For the inaugural camp, two students, ages 12 to 14, will be chosen from each of the school districts within the county.

Candidates must fill out an application packet, which may be obtained from their school office. The application will include a reference from a principal, counselor, teacher/staff member of his or her school or a law enforcement official.

Deadline for applications is Friday, May 1.
