Applications for the Boys & Girls Club of Poplar Bluff’s 2020 Summer Learning Program close Monday.

Applications for the Boys & Girls Club of Poplar Bluff’s 2020 Summer Learning Program close Monday.

Development Director Terri McCormick said, “space is filling up fast.”

The program has seven classrooms, but, McCormick said, they’re trying to add a couple more.

Because of COVID-19, the program will have a digital orientation instead of the traditional in-person one, McCormick said.

The program will run through June as a full-day program and July as an after-school program.

In June, the program runs from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It costs $60 per week per child and starts Monday, June 8.

In July, the program runs after summer school gets out until 5:30 p.m. It costs $15 per week per child. The club provides bus transportation.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, field trips will not take place during the program, but the students will take walks to Bacon Park.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided to all members.

During drop off and pick up, parents will be expected to remain in their car. A staff member will come to the vehicle and perform a health screening on the student before escorting him or her to their classroom.

If a child has tested positive or been exposed to somebody, who tested positive for COVID-19, they will not be allowed to attend for seven days.

Procedures for the program could change as the situation with COVID-19 continues to develop.

If a student tests positive for the virus, everyone who was in contact with them will be notified and required to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Parents can find applications for the program at bgcpb.org.
