The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library continues to host their annual book sale through Sunday. This helps to contribute to much of the programing for the library activities.
The director of the library, Shannon Midyett said the annual book sale usually generates somewhere between $8,000 and $10,000 in revenue for the library every year.
“We use that money to support our programming,” she said. “So when the magician comes in for summer reading, or when we have an animal show, or if we sponsor an author or speaker, we use that revenue that we collect through the annual book sale to offset the cost for offering those programs.”
She added while the library does offer an ongoing mini-book sale, the annual book sale is where all of the inventory is brought out to the public.
“So you will find things like paperbacks and hardbacks, every genre of children’s books, young adult books, mystery, science, fiction, romance and nonfiction,” she explained. “We offer those at really reasonable prices to the public.”
For Poplar Bluff resident and avid reader Stephanie Benites, she said the annual book sale is a great opportunity.
“I love to read,” she said. “The sale is great because it makes books affordable and cheaper; also you see a lot of people that are also readers.”
Midyett added the library continues to benefit from the care and the ongoing support of the community.
“The annual book sale is just a sign of that support,” she added. “When people think of the library to donate their books, then it benefits our library because we add those books to the shelves and allow readers to enjoy them.”
Midyett said the programs that benefit are not only for children and teens but also for adults.
The days of operation of the annual book sale are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 1-5 p.m. Sunday. The main branch of the library is located at 318 N. Main St. Visitors can take the elevator to the basement’s theater.
