Altrusa International of Poplar Bluff recently awarded a nursing scholarship, nominated officers and directors and planned an upcoming meet and greet event.

At the February meeting, Michelle Reynolds with Three Rivers Endowment Fund introduced Lara Hafford who is the recipient of the Altrusa $500 Scholarship. Hafford is majoring in nursing.

Nominating committee chair Linda Oesterricher did the first reading of the proposed slate of officers for the coming year.

Nominated were Nila Keller, president; Kathleen Hadley, vice president; Shirley Davenport, secretary; and Geraldine Hadley as treasurer. Directors nominated were Stephanie Letassy and Oesterricher for a two-year term and Annie Hinton for a oneyear term.

Nominated as two new directors for two-year terms for the Altrusa Foundation of Poplar Bluff were Honda Huster and Geraldine Hadley.

Membership Development Committee presented the details of the “Meet and Greet” event which will be from 2:30-4 p.m. March 19, in the Altrusa Room, Twin Towers, 508 Bartlett St. Everyone is invited to attend the event.

Keller called the February meeting to order and with those present repeating the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mary Ann Allen spoke to the club on the “Book of the Bluff” for this year and encouraged everyone to support the project.

The members were challenged by service project chair Sharon Fraser to read the book, “West with Giraffes” for Read Across America Day, March 2. Members will report on the book at the March meeting.

Accent was given by Davenport who briefly described the history of Black History Month. Keller led an African Dance routine.

Corretta Bishop and Jennifer Williams were initiated as new members and welcomed to the club.

The Meet and Greet event will be held from 2:30-4 p.m. March 19, 2022, in the Altrusa Room, Twin Towers, 508 Bartlett St. Everyone is invited to attend the event.

Members were reminded of the District Eight Conference April 21-24, at the Wyndham Hotel in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

The next scheduled meeting will be at 6 p.m. March 28, in the Twin Towers Altrusa Room.
