Altrusa International of Poplar Bluff is giving children the chance to win books at their Christmas booth at the Farmer’s Market Christmas on Saturday. Altrusa is a nonprofit service organization that be promotes literacy and improving the community. Altrusa members have given away books to children and adults to promote reading at their booth in October and November as part of the Fall Farmer’s Market events.

Altrusa International of Poplar Bluff is giving children the chance to win books at their Christmas booth at the Farmer’s Market Christmas on Saturday. Altrusa is a nonprofit service organization that be promotes literacy and improving the community. Altrusa members have given away books to children and adults to promote reading at their booth in October and November as part of the Fall Farmer’s Market events.

Altrusa has been busy in 2019 helping the community. Members ran a booth at the Alzheimer’s Walk as part of Altrusa International’s Make a Difference Day. Altrusans were at the Iron Horse Festival giving away books and volunteering at the café at the Historic Train Depot. Altrusa has been giving books and games to the pediatric unit at the Black River Regional Medical Center for several years and recently refurbished the ward with 150 items for patients. Altrusa’s Christmas project is giving hand signed Christmas cards to folks who receive Meals on Wheels. Plans are being made for the Membership Drive coming up in 2020 including the Young Adult Membership Incentive Program.

Meetings are the fourth Monday at 6 p.m. every month at the Altrusa Room in Twin Towers on Bartlett Street in Poplar Bluff. New members inducted are Paulette Barnette and Darien Lovell. Members plan service events, conduct business, have local speakers and conclude with food and fun projects. If you would like to attend the next meeting or for more information call 573-686-6892.
