Altrusa International of Poplar Bluff planned several activities and accepted a new member at its monthly meeting Monday, Jan. 25.

The group voted to accept Stephanie Latassy as a new member. The club is currently accepting applications for membership. Both men and women may apply. Call 573-686-2836, or look online at altrusa.org if interested in joining the organization.

After the Pledge of Allegiance, the minutes were read and the treasurer’s report was filed for audit.

“Responsibility for Recruitment” was Betty Absheer’s topic for the Altrusa Accent.

Committee updates were given. The club will present a Valentine gift of sweets, a card, brochures and business cards to the staff at the Pre-Kindergarten center as a thank you for accepting books for the students on International Literacy Day in September.

Paulette Barnett presented the Membership Minute, “Leading to a Better Community.” She emphasized anyone can give money or donate items, but when we all come together as a community, donating our time and effort, great things happen.

The board recommended the group retain the present officers for one year.

The new scholarship recipient from Three Rivers College is to meet with the club in February at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum.

Plans are being made to present Dr. Suess books to children in March. Members are continuing recordings for KPBM radio to be aired at 6 p.m. weeknights.

The meeting was adjourned with the Altrusa Benediction.
