With the start of fall just over a month away, the Agee Community Club has begun to look toward its anniversary celebration and the holiday season.

The Agee Community Club held its monthly meetings in July and August at El Acapulco.

In July, Nickey Orton hosted, while Cathy Womack hosted in August. The meetings were opened with the ladies repeating the club motto, “When the heart is full of love, the world is full of beauty.”

Invocation was given in August by Jeanie Figgins, who also gave the secretary and treasurer’s reports for both months. The ladies were asked this month to think about what they would like to plan for the club’s anniversary and for Christmas time. Figgins will host the September meeting. Devotional was read by Nadine Johnson from Acts 3:19-20. Roll call was answered with “How I spent the month of August.”

Freedom and thankfulness were featured topics at the July meeting. There was one guest, Susan Foushee, who gave the invocation. The devotional was given by Nickey Orton from Ephesians 1:1-10 and 1:7, Isaiah 30:15-16 was read by Foushee. Roll call was answered by members telling who your favorite teacher was.

Members said they are pleased to be back to having their monthly meetings after the rough start to this year. Orton talked about freedom and told a story about a cop who had pulled over a young mother and instead of ticketing her, he took her and bought a car seat for her child.

Magazines were exchanged at both meetings, with copies of the Black River Times handed out and some articles were read. A poem from honorary belated Orel Smith’s poetry book was read by Womack, “Patriots” in July, and “Good Ole Summertime,” was read in August by Orton.

The door prize in August was won by Orton. Instead of a door prize in July, each lady was given a beautiful shopping bag.

The ladies dismissed their meetings repeating the club collect, “Be Still and Know that I am God” — Psalms 46:10.
