“People sometimes might think the world is bad and whenever I did the shoe drive....well, I feel like it’s kind of a little spark of hope,” said Adalynn Williams.
Adalynn has had a passion for helping others for quite some time according to her mom Brittney Williams. “Several years ago there was a young boy in our community that had cancer and we did chocolate-covered strawberries as a fundraiser for him,” said Williams, “then a couple of years later, once she was a little older, she decided that she would like to do something more for people, so we came up with the shoe drive, this will be the second year, our first one was last summer.”
Adalynn calls her organization L.O.L with Addie, which stands for live-out love.
Last year with her shoe and sock giveaway she provided over 250 pairs of shoes and socks to local kids in need, this year they estimate that they will be giving away closer to 300 pairs.
Adalynn and her family are residents of Broseley, Missouri. This year she will be going into the sixth grade at Neelyville School. When asked what her future life plans were she said, “I don’t really know, I want to be a fashion designer, but I want to do a job that helps people too, there’s just a lot of choices.”
There was one thing Adalynn was certain about however, she said “all I know is I just really want to keep doing this.”
“This is all donation-based, everything comes from friends, family, our church family and we have even had people who have seen the flyers reach out and donate as well,” said Brittney.
This year the shoe and sock giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6 at Revive Resale in Poplar Bluff.
The store will also offer a 20% storewide discount for back-to-school needs and L.O.L with Addie will provide each child with 2 pairs of shoes and 2 pairs of socks.
“We thought Poplar Bluff would be a good central location for everyone in need,” said Brittney.
