• A mask requirement is put in place at Butler County Courthouse and some city buildings. The county reported 137 cases as of July 13.

• It is reported area COVID cases had doubled over the pervious month, with the total cases in Butler County at 168.

• A return to learn plan for Poplar Bluff schools is discussed which would offer both virtual and in person classes.

AUGUST

Aug. 7

• Butler County teachers talk about the challenges of heading back to school with the challenges of COVID-19 precautions in place.

•Butler County reports 25 new positive COVID cases Aug. 6, a new single day high for new cases. The total for the county stood at 253. Statewide the number of cases were 55,321 and deaths were at 1,280.

Aug. 12

• Three Rivers College shares that it will receive approximately $3 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act funding. Funding was expected to help purchase personal protective equipment, technology for distance learning and offset rent costs for students who moved out of campus housing.

Aug. 13

• Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center shares during a Aug. 12 briefing that inpatient hospitalizations are increasing, reporting that in the space of two weeks it went from zero to 11, with four of those on ventilators.

Aug. 14

• It is reported that Butler County commissioners had approved the use of $200,000 of $5 million in COVID relief money.

Aug. 15

• Poplar Bluff School District reports online only student registration is close to 500.

Aug. 18

• Three Rivers College officials discuss the first day back Aug. 17 of in person classes since the campus shut down in March for the coronavirus.
