The Poplar Bluff Operations of Briggs & Stratton worked hard throughout the past year to achieve a daunting task, "get our Quantum engine family capable of meeting the new EPA Phase III emission regulations that takes effect Jan. 1, 2012 on top of satisfying world demand for our engines in one of the busiest years we've realized ...and we succeeded!" said Poplar Bluff Plant Manager Mark Melloy.
"It took a team effort between our Research & Development resources in Milwaukee and our Technician and Engineering resources here in Poplar Bluff to develop design and manufacturing changes to our existing engine technology that allowed us to achieve a 20 percent reduction in emissions," Malloy said. "Accomplishing this reduction in emissions not only helps us comply with government regulations and our Sustainability goal of environmental stewardship, it also keeps our Quantumâ„¢ engine family in business for years to come!
"We're extremely proud of our Poplar Bluff team and our accomplishments over the past year. We enhanced the emission performance of our engines in the middle of a record production year where we built over 4.4 million engines for the outdoor power equipment market!" says Melloy.
The Poplar Bluff Operations employ more than 1,200 Southeast Missourians and Northeast Arkansans today across our two manufacturing facilities and three warehouse locations all in our Poplar Bluff Industrial Park. The local operations manufacture the Quantumâ„¢ and Professional Seriesâ„¢ engines for the outdoor power equipment industry on a global basis...and "we're proud to call Poplar Bluff home!"
