Stanley Estes, retired manager of Ozark Border Electric Cooperative, Poplar Bluff, was honored with the A.C. Burrows Award by the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives (AMEC) at that organization's annual meeting Oct. 5 in Branson.
The purpose of the award is to recognize directors and employees of electric cooperatives for outstanding service to their cooperative, community and service areas. Those who received the award were selected because of their leadership above and beyond the call of duty to strengthen and improve the economic and social conditions in their areas.
Estes came to Ozark Border Electric Cooperative in August 1976 as the manager of finance and accounting. After serving 15 months in this role, he became the acting manager. In May 1978, he was named general manager. He considered it an honor and privilege to serve the members and to be part of a great organization.
Ozark Border Electric Cooperative experienced a great deal of growth over his 40-year tenure. His contribution of sound business decisions and leadership will benefit the cooperative members for years to come.
Stanley serves as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff and he enjoys spending time with his family.
The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives, Jefferson City, is the statewide service organization for Missouri's electric cooperatives.
