The Missouri Pharmacy Association (MPA) recently celebrated the outstanding efforts of individuals in the pharmacy profession during its Annual Conference and Trade Show at the Marriott St. Louis Grand in St. Louis.

The 2017 "Bowl of Hygeia" Award was presented to David Farris, RPh. This prestigious award is presented annually to a pharmacist for their outstanding record of community service in the pharmacy profession. A 1966 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, David started his career as a staff pharmacist at Key Drugs in Poplar Bluff Missouri before moving on to own a couple of pharmacies, including the first compounding pharmacy of Poplar Bluff in 1984. He ultimately returned back to Key Drugs in 2012 and has been there since. David's involvement in community and civic activities has been astounding. He served four years in the US Navyas a radarman aboard the USS Yorktown, a former member of the Poplar Bluff Lions Club, a basketball coach, and a mentor for Claudia Company, which is a reading program for junior and senior high school students. In addition, David continued his education at St. Meinard Seminary School of Theology and is now an ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church. He decided on a pharmacy career to help people with their health care needs and now fulfills his second passion helping people with their spiritual needs.

He continues his involvement with MPA, NCPA, SEMO Pharmacy Association, PCCA and American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.
