POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT
Poplar Bluff firefighters responded at 10:31 a.m. Friday, July 23, to 1034 Park Avenue, where the occupant was burning trash in the backyard. Firefighters used 83 gallons of water to extinguish the fire and advised of the city burn ordinance.

Firefighters responded at 12:40 p.m. Friday, July 23, to 1026 Nickey St. to assist a person out of their house and into a wheelchair due to the doorway not being wide enough to allow a wheelchair to enter or exit. They lifted the person into the wheelchair and place him into a vehicle for transport.

Firefighters responded at 9:02 p.m. Friday, July 23, to 121 S. Eighth St. to a couch burning in the middle of the roadway. When firefighters arrived, they found an upholstered chair burning on the side of the road and extinguished it.

Firefighters responded at 10:14 p.m. Friday, July 23, to an unauthorized burn at Whiteley Park. On arrival, they were met by a passerby who called about the small fire by the pavilion. Firefighters used approximately 10 gallons of water to put out the fire consisting of wire.

Firefighters responded at 11:06 a.m. Saturday, July 24, to a citizen’s complaint in the 1100 block of North 10th Street and the 1000 block of North Harper street about a brush fire. The person burning brush was unwilling to extinguish the fire. Firefighters used 20 gallon of water to extinguish the fire. The person said he was starting the fire again. Firefighters showed him the city ordinance prohibiting anyone from burning as it was hindering the neighbors.

Firefighters responded at 3:14 p.m. Saturday, July 24, to 2121 Pike Avenue to an unauthorized burn where the occupant was burning trash. They used five gallons of water to extinguish the fire and informed the resident about the city burn code.

Firefighters responded at 4:21 p.m. Saturday, July 24, to an unauthorized burn at 510 Magnolia. They found the property owner burning a piece of furniture in the yard. They informed the person of the city ordinance and used a booster line and 20 gallons of water to put out the fire.

Firefighters responded at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, July 24, to an accident involving two motor vehicles with injuries on Cravens Lane and Highway 142. No one was trapped, but one person was injured. Firefighters provided first aid until emergency medical services arrived.

Firefighters responded at 8:08 p.m. Saturday, July 24, to an unauthorized burn at 932 Gardner St. They used a booster line and 50 gallons of water extinguish fire and informed the person of the city burn ordinance.

Firefighters responded at 3:33 a.m. Sunday, July 25, to a motor vehicle accident with no injures in front of the new animal hospital on South Shelby Road. They were cancelled on arrival and Poplar Bluff Police Department was on scene.

Firefighters responded at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, July 25, to 2049 Greenwood Drive to assist an emergency medical crew in gaining access to the building. Firefighters used the key in the knox box.

Firefighters responded at 9:32 a.m. Monday, July 26, to 1899 N. Westwood Blvd. to a non-injury vehicle accident. The vehicle struck the building’s front porch area of the UPS Store. Firefighters checked the driver of the vehicle and looked at the building’s structure. They made contact with building inspector and relayed there was very minor damage to the front porch section of the building.

Firefighters responded at 5:14 p.m. Monday, July 26, to 1721 Zehm for public service. A resident asked for assistance replacing a smoke detector battery.
