John Burke, 39, Poplar Bluff was taken into custody Thursday, July 4, for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and bribery of a public servant. According to the report, Burke was discovered hiding behind vehicles at Henderson’s Auto Sales. Upon speaking with Burke, a controlled substance and paraphernalia was located. Burke then offered to pay the officer in order to be released. Burke was processed and lodged in the Butler County jail.

Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Garfield Thursday, July 4, in reference to a 911 hang up. Contact was made with the caller who stated she was assaulted. The caller could not recall the address or the subjects she was with. She also appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. The caller did not wish to pursue charges and she was transported to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center by emergency medical services.

William Dorris, 50, Poplar Bluff was taken into custody Thursday, July 4, for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dorris consented to a search of his property during a stop. The search revealed items of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance. Dorris was processed and lodged in the Butler County jail.

Officers were dispatched Thursday, July 4, to Walmart in reference to a female concealing an item and leaving the business without paying for it. The female was escorted back inside and the property returned. Walmart retained all items involved and the female was trespassed from the business.

A subject contacted the police department Thursday, July 4, to report a license plate lost or stolen. The plate was entered as lost or stolen by dispatch.

Officers were dispatched Thursday, July 4, to Main Street and Harper Street in reference to a woman being removed from a vehicle. Contact was made with a female that stated she and her boyfriend were in an argument. The boyfriend kicked her out of the vehicle and left the area. No physical altercation took place. No charges were pursued.

Denise Ross, 41, Poplar Bluff was arrested Thursday, July 4, on charges of shoplifting and an active warrant through Probation and Parole. Ross allegedly stole a bottle of alcohol from Walgreens and was located shortly after she left. The alcohol was returned and Ross was taken into custody. During a search of Ross, drug paraphernalia was located as well. Ross was processed and lodged in the Butler County jail.

A traffic stop was made Thursday, July 4, on a Chevrolet Cruz due to improper registration. During the stop, the driver could not provide proof of insurance. Due to no insurance, the vehicle was towed from the scene.

An officer was in the area of the skate park Thursday, July 4, when they heard an explosion. They located a portable toilet at the skate park with smoke coming from it. Contact was made with several subjects at the skate park, however, nobody identified the suspect.

Officers were dispatched Thursday, July 4, to the 500 block of Harper Street in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon arriving, contact was made with the female. Officer noticed their lip was bleeding and bruising on the neck. Contact was then made with the male. The male stated the female struck him, so he grabbed an airsoft gun to protect himself. Due to conflicting stories, both advised they were struck by one another and denying striking the other they were both taken into custody. Kyndyll Dickson, 19, Poplar Bluff and Corey Whitworth, 19, Poplar Bluff were processed and lodged in the Butler County jail.
