POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT
Martin Wayne Hicks, 55, of the 3200 section of County Road 628, was arrested at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Pine Street and 11th after city police initiated a traffic stop to serve an arrest warrant for failure to appear. He was booked at Butler County jail.

Kenneth Murphy, 35, of the 1300 block of Forest Lane reported at about noon Feb. 19 that his 2005 Crown Victoria had been hit by an unidentified suspect while he was inside B&B used tires and that his front bumper and headlight were damaged. According to the report, a black Chevrolet pickup “squealed tires” leaving the area after a crash sound.

POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT
City firefighters responded to a reported unauthorized fire at 925 Cole Ave at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. According to the report, they found an unattended fire in the backyard. Firefighters extinguished the fire with 10 gallons of water.

City firefighters were dispatched to 3050 Tucker Road at 4:33 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 and were met at door by occupants saying the alarm was a sprinkler system malfunction. According to the report, they advised the business to take system out of service until repaired.

City firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 2701 Holly Trail at 1:53 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. According to the report, the alarm company met firefighters outside. They were told a new alarm system was being installed and the alarm was accidentally set off.

Robert S. Jones, 30, of Fairdealing, was arrested 7:07 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, on suspicion of tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, failing to display valid plates, wearing no seatbelt. He was booked at Ripley County jail.
