An associate of American Superstores at 2890 N. Westwood Blvd. reported Wednesday, Feb. 21, that a fraudulent check was used at the business. The suspect purchased items with a check that did not belong to them. Attempts have been made to contact the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.

Contact was made on Wednesday, Feb. 21, with two subjects in the parking lot of a State Farm branch. It was discovered they did not have drivers licenses, their vehicle had broken down, and they were making no attempts to remove the vehicle. Per the request of the property owner, it was towed from the business lot.

Liam Scott McGiveny, 35, of Poplar Bluff was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Probation and Parole Office, 1441 Black River Industrial Park Road, on Butler County warrants. McGiveny was taken into custody and lodged in the Butler County jail.

Joseph Jones, 61, of Poplar Bluff was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 21, on a charge of property damage second degree. Officers were shown a door Jones reportedly kicked open and the damage it caused. He was taken into custody and lodged in the Butler County jail.

Officers responded Wednesday, Feb. 21, to Menards at 3105 Oak Grove Road in reference to shoplifting. Employees stated a suspect came into the store and stole a drill, left, and later returned to steal another drill. The incident was captured on video surveillance and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers responded Wednesday, Feb. 21, to J.D.’s Quick Stop at 1529 N. Main St. in reference to a fight. The victim stated he was verbally assaulted and pushed. he suspect left the scene and has not been identified.

A traffic stop was made Wednesday, Feb. 21, on a red Dodge Dakota for expired registration. During the stop it was discovered that the vehicle was not covered by insurance, and it was towed from the scene.

Officers responded Wednesday, Feb. 21, to the 2000 block of Tennessee Street in reference to a domestic assault. The victim advised they wished to pursue charges. Contact was not made with the suspect and no medical attention was required. A probable cause affidavit will be sent to the prosecuting attorney.
