Poplar Bluff firefighters responded to a possible gas leak at Casey’s Convenience Store, 700 Highway 53, at 3:42 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20.

According to Lt. Joshua Buhler’s report, a tanker was delivering fuel. An employee who was outside told the firefighter they could smell the odor of propane. The firefighters walked the building’s perimeter locating the natural gas meter in the rear, which appeared to be operating normally. The crew went inside using the multi-gas meter and all readings were within normal range. They inspected the mechanical rooms and outside furnace area. Everything appeared to be functioning normally. The fire crew requested Spire Gas respond to investigate. Spire staff found nothing on their meter, but was going to conduct a pressure test on the gas meter as a precaution.

Firefighters were dispatched at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, to assist with a vehicle accident in front of Auto Zone, 335 N. Westwood Blvd. Upon arrival, the six firefighters were notified their services were not needed. _____

Butler County EMS called Fire Station 3 at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, to ask for help in lifting a patient at 1714 Kentucky Ave.

According to Capt. Jonathan Miller’s report, firefighters made contact with the patient while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive. After the firefighters assisted lifting the man into his chair, he refused to be transported.

Firefighters were contacted about an unauthorized burn at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at 2115 N. Main St.

According to Capt. Brad Jones’ report, the property manager extinguished the fire and firefighters explained the city burning ordinance.

Firefighters were notified directly at the station at 6:01 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, about a large fire burning in the 1600 block of Woodrow Street.

According to Capt. Chad Bell’s report, firefighters located a “very small fire in the backyard” at 1605 Woodrow and they used a rake to cover a small amount of coals.

Firefighters responded to an unauthorized burn at 8:06 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at 2309 Thomas St.

According to Capt. Chad Bell’s report, the fire in the backyard was residual from leaves burning earlier in the day. A rake was used to spread the leftover leaves out to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident with no injuries at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at the corner of Main and Benton streets.

According to Battalion Chief Stacy Harmon’s report, a truck struck a fire hydrant and the hydrant was leaking water onto Main Street. Municipal Utilities water department shut down the water going to the hydrant. Poplar Bluff police were at the scene.

Firefighters responded to a leaf fire at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, in the roadway of Ninth and Lester streets.

Battalion Chief Jeff Hale’s report said officers from station one found a small fire on the side of the roadway. He spoke to the occupants and advised they were not allowed to burn in the roadway and their fire had to be out by dark.

Firefighters from the three stations responded to the odor of an electrical fire at 4:56 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 23, at 2330 Maud St., apartment 2.

According to Battalion Chief Jeff Hale’s report, the seven firefighters checked all the outlets with the thermal imaging camera and the breakers. They gave the occupant a smoke detector.

Firefighters were dispatched at 7:33 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, the intersection of North Westwood Boulevard and Highway W to an accident cleanup.

Firefighters were dispatched at 6:43 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, to check an unknown odor at 2930 Vaughn St.

According to Capt. Bradley Jones’ report, firefighters used the gas meter and walked with area with no readings found. The home and none of the surrounding houses have natural gas.

Firefighters responded at 10:11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, to a fire alarm at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center behavioral health unit, 2620 N. Westwood Blvd.

Capt. Justin Moyers’ report stated the five firefighters discovered a sprinkle head was malfunctioning in the shower room. The sprinkler system going to the behavioral health unit was shut off.

Firefighters responded to an unauthorized burn at 5:48 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, on highways 53 and 142 at Whiteley Park.

According to Battalion Chief Jeff Hale’s report, they found a small fire in a barbecue grill. They extinguished the fire.

Firefighters responded at 1:34 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, to 1714 Kentucky Ave. to assist Butler County EMS prepare and load a patient to be transported, Capt. Steve Burkead’s report stated.
