Michael C. Johnson, 56, of Lowndes was arrested at 12:08 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, on suspicion of felony DWI (persistence offender) and failure to drive on right half of roadway. He was held at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

POPLAR BLUFF FIRE
Poplar Bluff firefighters responded at 4:23 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, to a smell of burning chemicals at 615 Kinzer St. Apartment 5. They also checked the gas meters at two apartments and found nothing.

Firefighters responded to an alarm system activation at 1108 Pershing St. at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 13. It was an unintentional activation and the key holder called to cancel while they were en route.

Firefighters responded at 3.33 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, to a fully involved shed fire at 2023 N. 14th St. The shed was located at the rear of the property. Firefighters deployed a bumper line to extinguish the fire and used 500 gallons of water. According to the report, the building and contents were a total loss.

Butler County firefighters responded at 10:44 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, to a shop fire at 104 B St., Neelyville. Tory Penrod owned the shop, which was destroyed.

County firefighters responded at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, to a fire at a vacant home at 1072 County Road 611 owned by Mary Vincent. The house had heavy fire damage. The Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating.

County Firefighters responded at 2:11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, to a car fire on Highway 67 South, south of Highway PP. The vehicle was a 2004 Dodge Intrepid owned by Melvin May. The wires under the hood caught fire.
