Ira V. J. Scarlet, 37, of the 3000 block of County Road 309 was booked Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Butler County jail to serve 23 days jail time.

Demario L. Williams, 28, of the 700 block of D Street was booked Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Butler County jail on a failure to appear warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT

Firefighters were dispatched at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, to Empire Comfort Systems, 2450 S. 11th St., where an alarm was sounding. It was determined the alarm malfunctioned and it was reset. Firefighters returned at 3:05 a.m. following a second alarm, and the unit was put into test mode until it could be repaired.

Firefighters responded at 7:37 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, to the 2522 N. Main St, home owned by Sharon Euler, where smoke was reported inside. It was determined the heating elements on the electric furnace were not shutting off properly and causing the smoke. Firefighters disabled power to the unit and told the homeowner to have the unit repaired before using it again.

Firefighters responded at 5:36 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, to a reported fire and found a grass fire at the intersection of Henderson Avenue and Addy Street. They used 20 gallons of water to put the fire out.

Firefighters responded at 7:37 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, to an alarm at the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center, 1200 Camp Road. It was investigation only.

Firefighters responded at 10:47 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, to a motor vehicle accident at Shelby Road and Roxie Road. They used Hydrobreak to clean up fluids and cleared the roadway of debris.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL

Four people suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, on Route H, five miles west of Malden. According to the report, the crash occurred as Fayne C. Ryans, 55, of Holcomb backed his 2008 Chevrolet Colorado out of a driveway, pulled to the shoulder and was struck in the rear by a 1997 Ford Taurus driven by Elizabeth K. Southard, 66, of Bernie. Two occupants in Southard’s vehicle, Carl L. Smith, 77, of Malden and Rose M. Southard, 45, of Malden also suffered minor injuries. All four taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Jeffrey L. Fischer, 51, of Lowndes was arrested at 9:18 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Wayne County on suspicion of felony DWI—persistent offender. He was booked at the Wayne County Jail on a 12-hour hold.

Williams J. Reed, 26, of New Madrid was arrested at 11:33 a.m. Tuesday, Feb 1, in Dunklin County on suspicion of second-degree trafficking of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the Dunklin County Jail on a 24-hour hold.
