POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT
Firefighters responded at 7:42 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, to an alarm at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center mental health, 2620 N. Westwood Blvd. According to the report, firefighters found a smoke detector had been pulled out of the ceiling, and determined that was the cause of the alarm as they searched the area with the thermal imaging camera.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:09 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, for a unauthorized burn at 835 Hart St. According to the report, upon arrival, the crews found it was an authorized controlled burn.

Firefighters were dispatched to a gas leak at 320 Apple St. at 6:31 a.m. Friday, June 10. According to the report, upon arrival, firefighters learned the stove would not shut off. They used the CGI meter to check for gas, found nothing, shut the gas off to the stove and advised the occupant to contact maintenance.

Firefighters were dispatched at 10:38 a.m. Friday, June 10, to 1301 N. 12th St. According to the report, upon arrival, the crew found light smoke in the house. Occupant Sandra Calder stated a child had left something in the oven, and when the oven was turned on it caught fire. The fire was out when they arrived, but they used the PPV fan to clear the smoke from the house.

Firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 11:06 a.m. Friday, June 10, at 1301 Shelby Road. According to the report, two vehicles were involved and the crew assessed the occupants and provided care until EMS arrived. They swept the debris and waited for both vehicles to be cleared from the roadway before returning to service.

Firefighters responded to an alarm system activation at 1:21 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Center, 2511 Sunset. According to the report, there was no fire and the alarm was unintentional. While en route, dispatch advised a call back stated it was a false alarm. A crew continued to the scene and met with employees who stated they were cooking and accidentally set off the alarm.

Firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 8:47 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Ninth and Maud streets. According to the report, while en route, dispatch advised no ambulances were available. Firefighters upgraded their response to emergency. Upon arrival, a Poplar Bluff police officer advised everyone was out of the one car but the guy in the truck appeared to be having a seizure. Dispatch advised Butler County EMS had a crew en route. When they arrived, they took over patient care and transported the patent to PBRMC. Firefighters cleared the scene after the tow company loaded both vehicles.

Firefighters were dispatched at 9:27 p.m. Saturday, June 11, for an unauthorized burn in the area of Wallace and Bearden streets. According to the report, they arrived at 307 Vaden St. and located a small bonfire in the back yard and issued a bonfire permit to Christopher Ross.

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm sounding at Northwest Medical Center, 2210 Barron Road, shortly after a power outage at 1:46 p.m. Sunday, June 12. According to the report, while en route they were advised of the power outage. Upon arrival, nothing was showing and contact was made with a key holder. They made entry into the building, checked all floors and nothing was found. The key holder checked the alarm panel.

Firefighters responded to Poplar Bluff Housing South Tower, 508 Bartlett St., at 2:47 p.m. Sunday, June 12, to assist in removal of victim(s) trapped in the elevator. According to the report, they located a person stuck on the sixth floor. The elevator power was shut off, and firefighters opened the door and removed the person from the elevator. The elevator was taken out of service until repairs are made.

Firefighters were dispatched at 5:07 p.m. Sunday, June 12, to 610 Hazel, Apartment C for a reported odor of gas. According to the report, they made contact with the occupant, who stated she could smell gas in her bedroom. Firefighters checked the residence and found nothing on the monitors. They then checked the connecting apartments and found the cook stove in a connecting apartment wasn’t working properly. Spire Gas was called and shut down gas to stove until repairs could be made.

Firefighters were dispatched to a reported commercial fire alarm sounding at River Mist Assisted Living Center, 2050 Maud St. at 6:10 p.m. Sunday, June 12. According to the report, all the occupants had evacuated the facility when firefighters arrived. They located a smoke/heat sensor that had malfunctioned. Firefighters assisted getting the residents back inside after checking the building. The alarm was taken out of service until repairs can be made. On duty staff will be on fire watch and will contact dispatch when the repair is made.

Firefighters left River Mist at 6:22 p.m. Sunday, June 12, to go to 506 Hazel to assist Medic One with a patient. According to the report, fire personnel assisted getting a patient down the stairwell and into an ambulance.

Firefighters responded at 11:24 a.m. Monday, June 13, to the Oak Grove Road and Highway 67 bypass to assist in extricating of victim(s) from vehicles involved in a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment. According to the report, the occupant of one of the vehicles was not injured but was unable to get either of the doors open due to damage from the accident. They used a hydraulic spreader to pop the driver’s side door open, at which time the occupant was able to step out of the vehicle. The occupant of the other vehicle was not injured. The crew stayed on scene until both vehicles were removed from the roadway and debris was cleared.

Firefighters responded at 1:43 p.m. Monday, June 13, to Gates Rubber Company, 1014 S. Broadway to a dumpster or other outside trash receptacle fire. According to the report, they found a large roll-off dumpster was burning and pulled the bumper line from Engine 33 to extinguish the fire. While one firefighter attempted to open the back door to the dumpster to gain access another firefighter set a ladder up on the side of the dumpster. One firefighter climbed the ladder with the hose line and extinguished most of the fire. After gaining access through the back of the container, the remaining fire was extinguished from the back door.

Firefighters responded at 6:40 p.m. Monday, June 13, to an alarm sounding at Northwest Medical Center, 2210 Barron Road. According to the report, after arriving on scene, nothing was showing. A firefighter made his way to the lower level to check the alarm panel, which showed normal with no alarms. The fire crew made contact with the business call center and was able to talk to an employee who stated she would leave a message with the on-call doctor and advise them of the malfunctioning alarm. The fire crew was unable to locate any problems in the building.
