Upon their arrival, firefighters found the occupants of 1125 Lester St. burning leaves. They told the occupants about the city’s burning ordinance and used 10 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

City firefighters were returning to the station at 5:44 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, when they found heavy smoke near 1935 N. 13th St. They found an unattended, unauthorized burn in a nearby ditch and used 50 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

City firefighters were returning to the station from another call at 5:29 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, when they came across an unauthorized burn at the 714 Hart St. home owned by Richard Chambers. Firefighters used 10 gallons of water to extinguish the fire and told the homeowner about the city’s burn ordinance.

City firefighters responded to a call at 3:24 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, about an unauthorized burn at 1533 Grand. Upon their arrival, firefighters found an unattended leaf fire in the ditch in front of the home and used 20 gallons of water to extinguish the flames.

City firefighters respond to a call at 1:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, to assist city police with an overturned all-terrain vehicle which had been smoking. After turning the ATV upright, the vehicle stopped smoking and firefighters cleared the scene.

City firefighters responded to an alarm at 12:18 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, for a motor vehicle accident on North Main Street. After checking for debris and fluids in the road, they cleared the scene.

City firefighters responded to an alarm at 4:11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, of a structure fire at the 1102 Harper St. home owned by Doug Aud and occupied by Stormy Mullins. Upon their arrival, firefighters found heavy flames and smoke coming from portions of the building. They were told Mullins was inside the home with her 10-year-old child, but city police found the pair safe elsewhere. Firefighters used 25,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire and used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots, while Spire Gas, Municipal Utilities, the city building inspector and state fire marshal were notified.

City firefighters responded at 6:42 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, to a report of smoke in the area of 120 N. 10th St. Nothing was found.

City firefighters responded at 12:57 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, to a sounding carbon monoxide alarm at the 1828 Seifert Drive home owned by Rick Brittingham and occupied by Kevin Fields. Firefighters used a CO meter but found nothing. They replaced the home’s malfunctioning alarm and cleared the scene.

County firefighters responded at 9:13 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, to a report of a structure fire at the 80 County Road 4702 home owned by Nicole Fryeh. Upon their arrival, the found a small fire in the garage and used 300 gallons of water to extinguish it.
