Poplar Bluff Firefighters responded at 12:39 p.m. Thursday, April 27, to the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center, 1200 Camp Road, to a fire alarm sounding, but nothing was sounding when the firefighters entered the building.

According to firefighter Justin R. Maddock’s report, school personnel advised the alarm had not sounded, but they received a call from the alarm company saying the fire department was responding. Personnel were unaware of an alarm and checked the building. Maintenance personnel advised the alarm company had been working on the system but it was causing.

Firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles with injuries at Sixth Street and Pine Boulevard at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29.

According to Battalion Chief Stacy Harmon, firefighters founded one person still inside a vehicle and others standing outside. Firefighters and Poplar Bluff Police gained access to the injured patient and helped Butler County EMS package and load one patient to transport to the emergency room. They remained at the scene until the towing company loaded the vehicle and the roadway was safe to reopen.

Firefighters responded to a report of gasoline or other flammable liquid spill at 10 a.m. Monday, May 1, at 604 Bartlett St.

According to Lt. Adam Yeley’s report, one of the tenants from an upstairs unit stated there was an odor coming from his apartment. Firefighters confirmed there was a smell of gasoline. The tenant said a downstairs occupant had a motorcycle inside.

All the apartments were checked with the multi-gas detector and the smell was narrowed down to apartment 3. The tenant was informed of the dangers of being in an unventilated space with gasoline and the electric fan was used to ventilate the building. The landlord was contacted.

Firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident at 11 p.m. Monday, May 1, at 717 N. Main St.

According to Battalion Chief Thomas L. Lane, while en route the crew was advised the driver might be trapped. The vehicle was on it’s side, but the driver did not appear to be injured. She was able to exit through the passenger side window. No one was in the other vehicle, which had been parked. The windshield was removed to turn the vehicle off. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Firefighters responded to a four-vehicle accident at 4:21 p.m. Monday, May 1, at Baldwin Buick GMC at 512 S. Westwood Blvd. A black Cadillac hit three vehicles on the Baldwin Automotive Group lot. A witness said the occupant of the black Cadillac fled on foot.

Poplar Bluff Police were searching for the driver. Firefighters used the spreaders to open the hood and disconnect the battery and put oil dry on the leaking fluids. A tow company removed the Cadillac. Butler County EMS also responded.

Firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at 5:27 p.m. Monday, May 1, at Westwood Boulevard and Shelby Road.

According to Capt. Bradley Jones’ report, they found a two-car accident with no injuries. They checked for injuries and controlled traffic until the roadway was cleared.

Firefighters responded to Whispering Oaks Residential Care Facility, 203 N. B St., at 12:51 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, for a system malfunction.

According to Battalion Chief Stacy Harmon’s report, firefighters were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm at the residential care facility. All the occupants had been evacuated when firefighters arrived. They located the fire panel which indicated the sensor in Room 201 had activated. The crew located the sensor and found no smoke in the room. The alarm showed trouble after it was silenced and reset. Owner Brenda Keeney contacted the alarm company and requested a repair tech. The fire department was to be notified when repairs were made and the system was back on line.
