City firefighters responded at 7:17 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, to a report of a smoke/carbon monoxide detector sounding at the 1007 W. Maud St. residence occupied by Arden Taylor and owned by Sally Welsh.
According to the report, firefighters entered the home and found no smoke present.
Firefighters used a multigas meter to check for carbon monoxide and got a reading.
Spire gas company personnel responded, and the technician used his gas meter to check for CO as firefighters used their meter as well. Both meters registered a CO reading, but the source could not be found.
The technician was going to perform a pressure test on the natural gas outlet.

City firefighters responded at 4:44 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, to a report of a structure fire at the 801 Lester St. residence occupied by Nicholas Winingnear.
According to the report, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the structure.
Winingnear told firefighters everyone was out, but there were eight puppies still inside.
Municipal Utilities personnel responded to disconnect the power to the home.
Firefighters forced open a door and set up a positive-pressure ventilation fan at the door.
Upon entering the home, firefighters began extinguishing the fire. The majority of the fire reportedly was in the laundry/bathroom and hallway outside the bathroom.
Firefighters used 500 gallons of water to put out the fire, which is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The puppies reportedly were found in the living room and were carried out by the occupants.
A firefighter found another dog in an upstairs bedroom, and the firefighter slipped on the stairs as he was coming down with the dog. The firefighter suffered a minor injury to his knee and was taken to the hospital by Chief Ralph Stucker.

City firefighters responded at 7:16 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, to a report of a tree on fire at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Harper Street.
According to the report, firefighters found a tree that had fallen from an earlier storm had some dead limbs smoldering. Firefighters used five gallons of water to put out the fire.

County firefighters responded at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, to a fire involving a golf cart at 934 County Road 548.
According to the report, the fire was out upon the arrival of the fire department, but the golf cart, owned by Richard Kays, was destroyed.
