Thank you for supporting the DAR
I want to thank everyone who has called or reached out in the past week to share their thoughts with us on the changes that came with September.
This was our first week of five-day digital, three-day print.
We have certainly had people who were frustrated by the change. But we’ve also had those who wanted to share how important having a local newspaper is to them. People who shared the impact community journalism has had on their lives and their region. We even had people who called first to complain about the change and then called again, after reading the first digital-only edition Wednesday, to say they were pleasantly surprised by how easy to pull up the edition was, and that still contained the local, regional and other content they were looking want to see.
I think we’re in a somewhat unique position here at the DAR.
We’re trying to serve four separate sets of customers, subscribers who prefer the print product, subscribers who prefer the digital product and subscribers who use both digital and print. There are also those in the community who do not subscribe to either but use our products through the website and social media — a certain amount of our content is free access, including obituaries, classifieds, any story of a public safety nature and some other items.
Each group has unique needs and expectations. The challenge is trying to serve everyone to the best of our ability, as a small staff.
We work hard at this and we will continue to work hard to navigate these changes.
Please continue to reach out if you have questions or thoughts to share.
If you have tried to access the online content and need help, we’re here for that as well.
Thank you for supporting community journalism and reading the Daily American Republic, in all its forms.
