Anne Roberts
Olive “Anne” (Hopkins) Roberts was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Marked Tree, Arkansas, to John “Hop” and Gladys McClure Hopkins. She passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, one day before her 90th birthday.
In 1952 Anne graduated from McCrory High School. She went on to graduate from Arkansas State University in 1956, where she met the love of her life, Carl “Gene” Roberts.
While attending ASU, Anne was the president of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She later earned a Masters Degree from Webster College.
Anne and Gene were married Dec. 18, 1954. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary later this month. They moved to Poplar Bluff, where Anne taught business class for 40 years. She was also the Honor Society sponsor. She retired from teaching in 1998.
Anne was president of the Junior Study Club and charter member of the Bluff Supper Club. She was also a member of the First Christian Church, where she was an Elder Emeritus, member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, Home Builders Class, and choir. She was an avid reader. She loved watching college football and basketball. Anne also enjoyed playing bridge with family and friends.
Anne is survived by her husband, Gene; two sons, Gene (Lori) Roberts Jr., and John (Karen) Roberts, all of Oregon; three grandchildren, Austin Roberts of Arizona, Sarah (Craig) Lee, and Daniel (Cassie) Roberts, both of Oregon; four great-grandchildren, Elijah and Melody Roberts, Addelyn and Ileana Lee, along with twins from the Lee family, expected in February.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.- noon Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. Funeral service will follow beginning at noon with Pastor Frank Chlastak officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First Christian Church of Poplar Bluff, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Macular Degeneration Association.
