Police arrest suspect in sexual assault

Poplar Bluff police have arrested a suspect in a sexual assault that was reported Saturday at Holiday Inn.

Police released security camera footage of the suspect Tuesday evening and received information Wednesday regarding the possible identity and location of the suspect, they report.

"Investigators subsequently contacted the individual and confirmed he was the suspect depicted in surveillance footage. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Austin Davis of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody without incident," police report. "Davis was lodged at the Butler County Justice Center pending the filing of formal charges."

Poplar Bluff police have released information regarding a sexual assault that occurred Saturday at Holiday Inn.

They are asking for help in locating the suspect, a white male.

According to reports, a Dexter woman was attacked by a male subject in a restroom while attending an event at the business. The 25-year-old was able to get away from the suspect and alert others to the situation, police said.

“She was later transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the assault,” according to a press release. “Upon a review of surveillance footage, a suspect was developed.”
