This weekend you can take a trip back in time, support the fight against Alzheimer’s, and kick off Halloween with a beloved spooky movie.

This weekend you can take a trip back in time, support the fight against Alzheimer’s, and kick off Halloween with a beloved spooky movie.

The annual Liberty Days at the Stars and Stripes National Museum and library begins tomorrow and runs through Saturday. Admission is free and attractions include historical demonstrations like blacksmithing, military reenactments, a pet photo contest and food trucks. Festivities last from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.

Also on Saturday are the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and a showing of “Hocus Pocus.” Gather at the Poplar Bluff High School track at 10 a.m. to benefit local dementia programs, then head to McLane Park in the evening for an outdoor showing of “Hocus Pocus” starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and refreshments are available as supplies last.

Upcoming events include:

— 12th Annual Liberty Days: A Living History Timeline Adventure, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 4-5. WHERE Stars and Stripes National Museum and Library, Bloomfield. COST Free. WHAT Military reenactments and historic demonstrations bring the past to life side by side with vendors, food trucks, live music and a pet photo contest.

— Wolf Creek Trail hike and cleanup, 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 5. WHERE Wolf Creek Trail, North Trailhead. WHAT The Poplar Bluff Trails Coalition is hosting volunteer work day at Wolf Creek with a guided hike and scavenger hunt. The family-friendly event is 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, beginning with volunteer registration at the North Trailhead. Families and individuals will do some light trail work and explore the wonders of Wolf Creek. Volunteers can pre-register at eventbrite.com.

— Walk to End Alzheimer’s, 10 a.m. Oct. 5 WHERE Poplar Bluff High School stadium and track WHAT A fundraiser to benefit local dementia resources and programs. For more information or to join a team, visit alz.org. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m.

— Hocus Pocus at McLane Park, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5. WHERE McLane Park, Poplar Bluff. COST Free. WHAT An outdoor showing of “Hocus Pocus” with popcorn, drinks and cookies available while supplies last. Moviegoers should bring lawn chairs. Admission opens at 6 p.m. and the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. This event is sponsored by Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation and Missouri Highlands Health Care.

— Chalk Bluff Rodeo, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11. WHERE Ray Clinton Park. COST $15 for adults, children 5 and under are free. Hook fee is $10. WHAT The Chalk Bluff Rodeo is one of the final events of the Butler County Fair.

— Costume Leash March, 6 p.m. Oct. 12. WHERE Downtown Poplar Bluff Dog Park. WHAT A canine costume contest to wrap up the Butler County Fair.

— Pinktober Saturday Walk, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 19. WHERE McLane Park. COST Free entrance. WHAT A charity walk promoting breast cancer awareness and benefiting local organizations providing mammograms, preventative screenings, and more. Food, T-shirts and more are available. — Broseley Homecoming, Oct. 19. WHERE Broseley Senior Community Center, 2470 County Road 650, Broseley. WHAT A day of food, family, games, music and more. Opens at 8 a.m.

— Mammos & Mocktails: Sip, Scan and Stay Health, noon Oct. 25. COST Free. WHERE Holiday Inn Ballroom. WHAT A Lunch & Learn with food, giveaways and a panel of experts. Visit pbrmc.com/events to register.

— Pumpkin Plunge, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 25. WHERE Black River Coliseum Aquatic & Fitness Center. COST $5. WHAT Go diving for pumpkins and hang out poolside to decorate your prize gourd. All participants get a candy goodie bag. Advised attire is a Halloween costume and swim suit.

— Halloween Parents Nite Out, 6:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 25. WHERE Xtreme Gymnastics. COST $29 pre-registration, $39 at the door. WHAT Parents are invited to drop off their kids ages 3-12 for a night of fun with a costume party, candy hunt, playtime, crafts, and a not-so-spooky maze. Pre-registration is due by Oct. 24. Children must be potty trained.
