Did you see the train? If you didn’t see it, you must have heard it. Normal rail traffic carries across Poplar Bluff’s hills and valleys most of the time. If you didn’t, we’re talking about Union Pacific’s Big Boy, a historic steam engine — a loud, historic steam engine.

If you missed it, we’ve got you covered. It’s in today’s print edition, on our website and was live on our Facebook page when it arrived in town (the video is still there.)

Those are the benefits of the digital age we live in now, but that’s not really what we’re writing about today.

Today, we want to talk about what’s happening in Poplar Bluff. Which is a lot, every week.

We often hear people say there’s nothing going on here. We beg to disagree. Maybe you just need a better source for your information (we say with a smile.)

We cover events every week, many of which are free and family-oriented. If you check out our Main Event column that runs at the end of each week, you’ll see that September is already packed with good fun, from the Union Pacific’s trip through town to the Iron Horse Festival at the end of the month and many activities in between.

Not to toot our own horn, but we can direct you to something different every week. You just need a reliable source for your information.
