An investigator from the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office was requested to investigate the cause of a three-alarm structure fire at 10:23 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at 1112 Fairmount St.

Seven fire department personnel in three apparatus spent about an hour and a half at the scene, according to Fire Chief Michael Moffitt’s report.

Upon arrival, the firefighters saw light smoke coming from two sides of the structure, Moffitt’s report stated. They extinguished a small fire near the electrical outlet under a window. Crews removed the interior and exterior wall covering to check for fire extensions and to extinguish fire in the wall. The fire was confirmed to the room of origin.

Other firefighters at the scene were Jeremy Downing, Adam Yeley, Steven Burkhead, Eric Mierisch, Brad Jones and Josh Robison.

Firefighters responded 2643 Crestwood Blvd. at 7:44 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, to an unintentional alarm system activation.

According to Brad Jones’ report, five personnel in two apparatus responded but one was canceled when the first crew arrived and learned the alarm was set off by cooking.

Responding to the scene were Kevin Edgar, Steven Burkhead, Joseph Somers and Eric Mierisch.

Poplar Bluff Fire Department received a call at 9:17 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, regarding a strange odor in a house at 1841 Raulston Ave. They were on the scene 17 minutes.

According to Steven Burkhead’s report, fire personnel used the multi-gas meter to check the house and found an odor of sewer from a washer drain. No smoke detectors were found in the house, fire personnel installed one while they were on the scene.

Joseph Somers and Eric Mierisch were also at the scene.

Firefighters were called at 9:26 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, to 3065 Oak Grove Road to investigate an alarm activation.

According to Brad Jones’ report, four personnel were dispatched in two apparatus. While en route, the call was canceled but one crew responded as a nonemergency to confirm the alarm was accidental. They were on the scene 18 minutes.

Adam Yeley and Jeremy Downing were also at the scene.

Firefighters responded at 12:39 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, to an alarm at Harbor Freight, 2128 N. Westwood Blvd.

According to Brad Jones’ report, they were informed en route they could cancel the response. No fire was showing upon arrival, they confirmed the alarm was accidental before they cleared the scene. Kevin Edgar was also was at the scene.

Firefighters from two stations responded at 5:07 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, to a report of a transformer fire at 1029 S. Westwood, Apt. 1. According to Adam Yeley’s report, utilities were notified. When engine seven arrived, they found a small grass fire at the base of a utility pole. After extinguishing the fire, personnel on engine seven and ladder one cleared the scene. The crews, which included Kevin Edgar and Jeremy Downing, spent about 18 minutes at the scene.

According to Brad Jones’ report, firefighters responded to a two-vehicle accident at 8:26 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the intersection of North Westwood Boulevard and Shelby Road.

The firefighters provided first aid and checked for injuries until Butler County EMS arrived. The injured occupants were transported to the hospital. The firefighters preformed traffic control and removed hazards from the scene. After the trucks were towed, the fire crew washed the roadway. They spent an hour at the scene. Other firefighters involved were Joseph Somers and Josh Robison.

Firefighters responded at 1:06 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, to a single motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Maud and 10th streets.

According to Kevin Edgar’s report, a Poplar Bluff police officer was at the scene upon their arrival. Since there was no injuries, one of the crews returned to the station. A small amount of fluid was leaking from the vehicle so the remaining crew stayed until a wrecker removed the vehicle. Firefighters used oil absorbent to clean the road. They spent 48 minutes at the scene.
