Cecil Walter Griffin, 77, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, at his residence.

Cecil was born Dec. 13, 1946 to the late Walter and Alma Maxine (Croy) Griffin near Qulin, Butler County, Missouri.

Cecil was a retired pastor and member of True Gospel Church and retired from being a custodian at Hillview School. He served in the Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as a sergeant in the Vietnam War. He loved God, reading and studying the Bible, his family, gardening, St. Louis Cardinals, loved any kind of outdoor activity which included hunting, fishing, working on any project outside and he could blow you away with his skill of understanding math.

He married the love of his life, Henrietta Haislip June 3, 1967, in Fisk, Missouri. She survives.

He is also survived by two children, Rodney Griffin (Racheal), and LaVonda Hansen (Duke); grandkids, Curtis Hansen (Brooke), Garrett Griffin, Jackie Griffin (Steven Ferrill), Jessep Griffin, Julia Griffin (Shine McSwain), Dixie Kelly and Dyllan Kelly; six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nolan Dennis, Ivy McSwain, Micah Hansen, Hadley and Jamie Ferrill; three siblings, Ruth Wells(Lenny), Rita Wilkes (Jerry) and Charlie Griffin.

Cecil was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Griffin, and five siblings, Mary Lou “Mert” Francis, Neoma Sandage, John Griffin, Pearl Griffin, and Bertha Dillinger.

His prayers and presence will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 701 Vine St. Poplar Bluff from 11 a.m. to noon.

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Duke Hansen and Jeremy Dawe officiating. Burial will follow at Kern’s Chapel Cemetery with full military honors.
