One dead in single-vehicle accident Friday

A 19-year-old is dead following a single-vehicle accident Friday afternoon.

Dalton J. Mitchell, 19, of Broseley was driving northbound on Highway NN when his 2006 Ford F-150 ran off the road two miles northeast of Poplar Bluff, striking an embankment and a tree. A preliminary report stated the vehicle may have over-corrected and flipped over as a result.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol listed the time of the crash as 4:10 p.m. Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:37 p.m. by EMS and transported to the Butler County morgue by coroner Jim Akers.

Mitchell is the 40th fatality in Troop E this year. He was wearing a seatbelt.
