Wednesday, August 7, 2024

Nearly a dozen events are taking place in Poplar Bluff this weekend, so they should offer something for everyone from the classic car lover to the bookworm, with music, art and good causes packed in between.

Friday evening in Downtown Poplar Bluff features a cruise in from 5-9 p.m. on Vine Street, the annual VIP Banquet at the Black River Coliseum to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and an open swim at the Coliseum pool for girls hosted by the Girl Scouts.

The VIP Banquet includes dinner, live and silent auctions, games, raffles and more.

Activities start early Saturday with what Sleep In Heavenly Peace hopes will be their biggest bed build yet. The group will gather with volunteers at the Black River Coliseum, where beds will be built for children in need. In honor of the Coliseum’s 25th anniversary, their goal is to construct 125 beds.

The Family Worship Center is also hosting a monthly prayer breakfast from 9-11 a.m. Saturday with a speaker.
