James Ralph Henthorne, 78, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

Jim was born Sept. 1, 1945, to Ralph and Bessie (Nichols) Henthorne in Neelyville, Missouri. He married Sally Ann (Henderson) June 5, 1965, in Poplar Bluff.

Jim was a top-notch brick and stone mason as well as an accomplished home builder who took great pride in his work since his teenage years. He expertly built and bricked countless buildings and homes in the Poplar Bluff area, such as the Veterans’ Wall at the Black River Coliseum, the Tinnin Fine Arts Center at TRCC, and many jobs in other cities and states. He was well-known for his talent in laying bricks and stone, and for his prize-winning marigolds and zinnias he grew and shared with family and friends. Besides gardening, he had an interest in western memorabilia, cars, and tractors, and knew how to fix anything. In his spare time, Jim loved playing golf and watching Gunsmoke in his recliner with his best furry friend, Maggie.

Jim is survived by one son, Chris (Samantha) Henthorne; three daughters, Karen Hodge, Tammy (Stewart) Mullican, and Joanne (Bob) McIntosh; three sisters; two brothers; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; special canine companion, Maggie; along with numerous extended family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally Ann Henthorne; two sisters, Anna Sante and Norma Jean Pyle; two grandsons in infancy, Steven and Jeremy Schmidt.

Celebration of life will be held at the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce from 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2024
