A private screening of the new “Twister” movie will be held this week, followed by a special discussion by area professionals on tornadoes and emergency preparation.
It will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at AMC Classic 8.
“We thought we would take advantage of this opportunity to help educate people about tornadoes and how to prepare for them,” Butler County Emergency Management Agency Director Robbie Myers said. “We’ll also be able to point out what things might have been incorrect in the movie, as well.”
Myers said the panel will consist of Craig Meador, head of Poplar Bluff Severe Weather Response; Steve Eddy, meteorologist with the National Weather Service out of Paducah; Grant Dade, meteorologist with KFVS-12; and Frankie Casteel, news and weather on air personality with KWOC.
“The cost will be $5, and that will include movie, popcorn and soda,” Myers explained, “And of course, it will also include the great discussion from the panel.”
Myers went on to explain the panel will also provide an opportunity for people to ask questions of the experts on the panel.
“We just think this is a really neat opportunity to be able to communicate important information to the public,” Myers said. “I’m so grateful to Missouri Highlands for sponsoring this event.”
As a result of Missouri Highlands sponsoring the event, Myers said there will also be door prizes.
“We’re expecting it to sell out, as it’s limited to 300 tickets,” Myers explained. “Tickets can be purchased through eventbrite.com; or you can just go to the Butler County EMA page on Facebook.”
