Wanda Montague

Wanda Lou Montague, 89, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at The Manor in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

She was born June 2, 1935, to the late Everett Lee and Lela Dean Robinson (née Murrell).

Wanda grew up in Campbell, Missouri until her father sold their farm and moved the family to Phoenix, Arizona where they lived until she completed the eighth grade. After moving back to Rombauer, Wanda attended high school and graduated from Fisk Rombauer where she met her husband, Robert “Bob” Montague. Wanda and Bob were married July 15, 1951. They raised five children together. Bob preceded Wanda in death Dec. 4, 1982.

She co-owned and co-operated their store, Montague’s Lake Supplies at the lake in the late 60s. She worked for Montgomery Ward in the 70s. She also worked at the Assembly of God Church where she attended church at the time. Wanda later obtained her CNA license and worked with special needs adults, and privately for local seniors. Later, she and Bob moved to a farm outside Rombauer which she later sold to her sons Austin and Jason.

Wanda was a lifelong devoted Christian of the Pentecostal faith. She attended First Assembly of God in the 70s and 80s, and most recently Fellowship Christian Family Worship until her health declined. She also visited and attended other local churches at Rombauer and Star Church throughout the years. She sang and wrote gospel music and was in a couple of local groups. She produced and recorded CDs of her music.

Wanda is survived by five children: Robert Jerry “Cowboy” Montague, Austin (Terri) Montague, Stuart Jason (Jo) Montague, Candi (Jacob) Sturgeon, and Chadwick Lee Montague; 11 grandchildren: Jasa Yvette (Jamie) Suiter, Liza (Justin) Rodewall, Halee (Drew) Janes, Quintin (Kim) Montague, Emiley Montague, Constance Jeree (Deetz) Montague, Anthony Montague, Morgan Leigh, Noah Conner Sturgeon, Shawn Bell and Stephanie (Walker) Bell; 19 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Helen Sanchez, Dee Tabor, Nelda Lynch, John Robinson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Wanda was also preceded in death by one daughter-in-law: Betty Montague; and six siblings: Jack Peterson, Bill Robinson, Eldon Robinson, Charlie Robinson, Phyllis Gibson, and Betty Mauldin.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2024 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kevin McAnulty officiating. Burial will be at the Rombauer Cemetery. Condolences: www.whitesandersfuneralhome.com.
