Charles Nicolini

Charles N. “Nick” Nicolini, 70, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Saint Louis, after a long illness.

Mr. Nicolini was born Jan. 6, 1954, at Doctors Hospital in Poplar Bluff, to the late Quinto and Alda Nicolini. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1972. He lived in Poplar Bluff for 61 years, but spent the last nine years of his life in Saint Charles, Missouri, after his retirement because of illness.

Mr. Nicolini was a well-known hairdresser. In September of 1979, he and his partner Ken Laffoon owned and operated the Artistic Beauty Salon at the corner of Broadway and Highway 60, next to the Rogers Theatre. Mr. Nicolini moved the salon to 201 S. Eighth St. where it continued to flourish for many years. He still maintained his Missouri Hairdressing License.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church where he sang in the choir and shared his passion for singing and playing the guitar.

Mr. Nicolini leaves behind a son, Shannon Wood (Amy), a granddaughter Caelyn, and a grandson Jackson of Springfield, Missouri. He is also survived by brother/cousin Rick Nicolini (Barbara) of Poplar Bluff, and three sisters, Pat Smiddy of Benton Kentucky, Catherine Rice of Saint Charles, Missouri, sister/cousin Judy Sills of Memphis Tennessee, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rose Mock of Poplar Bluff, sister/cousin Mary Ann Stage of Little Rock, Arkansas, and brother/cousin Robert Nicolini of Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Friday May 31, 2024, at Sacred Heart Church followed by the funeral Mass beginning at noon Sacred Heart Church is located at 123 S. Eighth St., Poplar Bluff. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff is in charge of arrangements.
