Cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Hector Dox, M.D. has joined the medical staff of Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and the Cardiovascular Institute of Southern Missouri as part of Regional Physician Services.
With an extensive cardiovascular background, Dox’s areas of expertise include open heart surgery for coronary artery bypass. He also performs aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve replacement and repair as well as aortic arch interventions.
He also provides lung surgery for malignant cancer, benign and infectious conditions. Additionally, he performs as carotid, aortic and peripheral vascular surgery.
“The demand for superior cardiovascular care in our community is palpable, and we are thrilled to meet that need head-on by introducing Dr. Dox to Poplar Bluff and its neighboring area,” exclaimed Clyde Wood, CEO of Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico, Dox received his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in San Juan, where he also completed his internship and residency in general surgery.
Most recently, Dox served as cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon with Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
“We are very excited about coming to Poplar Bluff and joining the family of Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and the community in general,” Dox said.
He and his wife, Carol, live in Poplar Bluff. In his free time he enjoys road and mountain biking, photography, music and Latin-American literature.
