Dorothy Longbottom
Dorothy “Vernette” Longbottom, daughter of the late James William Waites and Myrtle Ellen (Berry) Waites was born Nov. 21, 1930 in Ellsinore, Missouri and departed this life Feb. 13, 2024 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She had attained the age of 93 years, two months and twenty- two days.
Vernette had resided in Poplar Bluff since the mid-70s and was formerly of Granite City, Illinois. She was of the Pentecostal faith and had attended the Assembly of God Church in Ellsinore. She enjoyed cooking, raising her children and taking care of her husband. Vernette had a very simple but fulfilling life. She was loyal, honest, down to earth and a very genuine person.
On April 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Walter Lewis Longbottom in Piggott, Arkansas. To this union, two children were born a set of twins, James Louis Longbottom and Linda Lee Longbottom.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Lee Parker (Vernon) of Poplar Bluff; three grandchildren, Shane Lewis Parker, Sommer Lee Carpenter and Sloan Clayton Parker; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, Vernette was preceded in death by her husband Walter Longbottom Jan. 28, 2003. Also, preceding her in death was her son, James “Louie” Longbottom; her sisters, Bernice Chronister and Wanda Lassen; brother, Charles Ray Waites and two great-great-grandchildren, Adalymn and Carley Jo.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2024 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore, with the funeral services following at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Sloan Parker will be officiating. Burial will be in the Henson Cemetery in Ellsinore, Missouri.
