Poplar Bluff firefighters were dispatched at 8:34 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, to 949 Robin Lane to assist Butler County EMS.

According to Capt. Justin Moyer’s report, they were told to disregard since they were able to gain access to the house.

Firefighters responded to an alarm activation at 9:27 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, to 2610 Miller Lane.

According to Capt. Brad Jones’ report, no fire or smoke was showing when the two crews arrived. The alarm was set off due to maintenance being performed.

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 10:50 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at FCC Behavioral Health, 686 Lester St.

According to battalion chief Kevin Edgar’s report, an employee showed the six firefighters the area where the alarm sounded. Remodeling was underway in the first and second floors. The alarm was supposed to be in test mode during construction, but activated due to dust in the smoke alarm. The alarm panel was reset.

Firefighters responded to a building fire at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at 836 Cynthia and Selma streets.

According to Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar’s report, two sheds were on fire. When the eight firefighters arrived they found a grass and leaf fire burning across the rear yard. The fire had spread to two separate storage buildings. One shed was on Cynthia Street and the second shed t 835 Kinzer St., which was directly behind the original property.

Crews extinguished the fires and made certain all the fire and hot spots had been extinguished. The Cynthia Street property owner stated he was burning in a barrel which he had left unattended. He returned to find the fire had spread outside the barrel and across the yard into his and his neighbor’s sheds.

According to Edgar’s report, the damage to both sheds was contained to the exterior siding. Crews spent approximately an hour at the scene.

Firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 4:42 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at the intersection of South Westwood Boulevard and Highway 53.

According to Capt. Steve Burkhead, upon arrival fire personnel from two stations assessed the occupants of both vehicles and provided first aid until Butler County EMS and Medic One EMS arrived. The fire department assisted with accident clean up and vehicle removal.

According to a report by Lt. Andrew Fox, two firefighters responded at 6:35 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, to 1714 Kentucky Ave. to assist Butler County EMS lifting a patient from the floor and loading the person into an ambulance.

Firefighters responded to an unauthorized burn at 4:39 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at 1503 W. Vine St.

According to firefighter Joseph Somer’s report, the three-member crew discovered an unsupervised fire and used 25 gallons of water to extinguish it.

Firefighters responded to an unauthorized burn at 5:23 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at 609 Park St.

Firefighter Joseph Somer’s report stated, the three firefighters found a burn barrel in the backyard. The contents were removed from the barrel and the crew used 30 gallons of water to the extinguish the fire.

Battalion chief Kevin Edgar’s report stated a possible structure fire was called in at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at 218 N. C St. and was answered by eight firefighters from the three stations. They found a small trash fire behind the address and used 10 gallons of water to put out the fire. The person was advised of the city ordinance against burning any unauthorized materials.

Firefighters responded about 9:21 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, to assist emergency medical services gain access into 727 Price St. since the patient was unable to open the door.

Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar’s report stated, upon his crew’s arrival, EMS had gained access into the home and was helping the patient, but asked the three firefighters to stand by in case they needed help moving the patient. The fire crew did assist in moving the patient onto a stretcher and into the ambulance.

Firefighters were dispatched to a possible structure fire at 6:36 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 1028 Kinzer St.

According to the report by Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar, the eight crew members from the three stations arrived on scene of a two-story, vacant and condemned apartment building to find nothing showing. After investigating, they found someone squatting in a lower level apartment who had started a fire in a foil pan to keep warm.

There was no fire when firefighters arrived and spoke with the occupant. An officer was requested to respond and talk with the occupants about vacating the property.
